Highlighting the 2012 calendar is the addition of three all-new GNCC Racing venues in Indiana, Kentucky and West Virginia-giving racers the opportunity to compete on fresh soil next season.

“We’re really excited to introduce three new venues to the GNCC Racing schedule next year,” said GNCC Trail Boss, Jeff Russell. “Since the Loretta’s GNCC, we’ve been traveling all over to find new GNCC Racing venues for our GNCC Racers and I think the fresh trail and new scenery will add a whole new level of excitement for everyone.”

The series returns to many GNCC favorites in 2012, including Snowshoe Resort, Unadilla MX, Ironman and Loretta Lynn’s, which will once again serve as the season finale.

A special weekend GNCC Racing format will take place at Loretta Lynn Ranch in November, in order to accommodate the 2012 ISDE and National Enduro schedules. Motorcycles will compete throughout the day on Saturday and ATV racing will follow on Sunday-atypical from the other 12 rounds of racing where ATVs compete on Saturday and motorcycles on Sunday.

What is GNCC?

Read the entire history of the event at www.gnccracing.com. Here are some excerpts;

How GNCC Racing Works

Six races are held each weekend. Each race contains several classes, with each class separated into separate starting-line rows that begin one minute apart. On ATV day, Youth riders aged 6 – 15 race for one hour starting at 8 a.m. A two-hour race for the Women, Utility, Super Senior and Novice classes starts at 10 a.m., and then the Pro, Pro Am, A and B riders race at 1 p.m. On Bike days, Youth riders aged 7 – 15 race for 90 minutes at 8 a.m.; Women, Super Senior and Novice riders race for two hours at 10 a.m.; and the Pro, A and B riders race for three hours starting at 1 p.m.

Each GNCC Racing class is scored separately using a computerized transponder scoring.

GNCC courses usually run between 10 and 12 miles long for adult classes and 3-5 miles for youth.

Over 1500 GNCC Racing riders will compete during a GNCC weekend, and they hail from all 50 states, as well as Europe, Asia and Australia.

The top pro racers make a lucrative living racing the series thanks to prize money and sponsorship endorsements. Racing is a full-time job for a GNCC championship contender.

About GNCC Racing

The AMA/ATVA-sanctioned Grand National Cross Country series is America’s premier off-road racing series. The 13-round race series stretches through the eastern US, starting with the season-opener in Florida in March and concluding with the season-finale in Indiana in October. The GNCC series is produced exclusively by Racer Productions, a Morgantown, West Virginia-based racing production company with over 30 years of experience in the industry. Cross-country racing is one of the most physically demanding sports in the world. The riders must navigate rugged terrain such as woods, mud, dirt, rocks and jumps for nearly three hours, while racing against the best talent in the world.

The GNCC Championship has drawn interest internationally, as riders from Europe, Africa, Australia and New Zealand compete regularly, usually backed by massive factory teams with an array of technicians at their disposal. Upwards of 1500 racers compete at each GNCC round on custom-built high-performance motorcycles and ATVs. The race action draws several thousand fans each weekend as well as a loyal following t

Through the series television show on the Versus Network here in the US, on the Fox Australia network in Australia, and on Motors TV in over 55 different European countries, as well as media coverage in off-road racing publications around the world. The growth of the series makes GNCC big business, but the core value of the series remains: easy-access, family-friendly, low-pressure racing.

It was a season of development and patience for the AMSOIL/EBR team in 2011.  Rider Geoff May started the AMA American Superbike class on top of an underpowered 1125 as he waited for the mAmsoil Motorcycle Productsid-season unveiling of the EBR 1190RS.

The patience paid off for May as he ended the 2011 campaign with his best finish atop the new ride.  A sixth (and 11th on Saturday) at New Jersey Motorsports Park was a testament to the bikes capabilities and the teams commitment to finding a winning combination.

“We had a lot of work to do this year,” said May. “It’s not easy trying to get a new bike approved by the AMA in midseason, but we kept pushing and a full off season of testing is only going to make this program better in 2012.”

May finished tied for ninth in the American Superbike class with Steve Rapp at 139 points.  Also riding an EBR 1190RS at the final round was privateer Taylor Knapp, who finished 12th and 7th.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
One of the Amsoil Motorcycle Products is AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil is a premium oil designed for those who demand the absolute best lubrication for their motorcycles. AMSOIL 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is the result of extensive research and is specially formulated to excel in all areas unique to motorcycles, including the high temperatures of air-cooled engines such as Harley-Davidson® V-Twins, wet-clutch lubrication, extreme-pressure regions of gears and chains and rust common to short trips and storage.

AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil one of the leading Amsoil Motorcycle Products, and is multi-functional and fulfills the requirements of both domestic and foreign motorcycles. It outperforms other conventional and synthetic motorcycle oils. AMSOIL, the leader in synthetic lubrication, produced the world’s first API-qualified synthetic motor oil in 1972. Trust the extensive experience of AMSOIL, The First in Synthetics,® to do the best job protecting your motorcycle.

Reduces Friction, Heat and Wear
In high heat conditions, engine protection is not sacrificed with AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil. It has exceptional high-temperature film strength and contains a heavy treatment of anti-wear additives to reduce wear regardless of operating conditions. AMSOIL 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is thermally (heat) stable and contains maximum levels of oxidation inhibitor additives. It is extremely resistant to breakdown and engineered to prevent damaging sludge and carbon deposits for superior engine cleanliness.

Provides Extreme Pressure Quality Protection for Gears and Chains
With AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil, there is no need for separate transmission or primary chaincase lubricants. It is absolutely shear stable and will not thin out from mechanical activity. AMSOIL 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil performs like a gear lube without the negative effects of extreme-pressure additives. In the FZG gear test, AMSOIL achieved a perfect score with a “zero” wear rating (see test photo).

Delivers Superior Rust Protection
Motorcycles are prone to rust from storage, humidity and short drives. Rust can cause major damage such as roller bearing failure, uncontrolled wear, compression loss and blow-by. Good rust protection, however, comes by design and is not natural to engine oils. Unlike many motorcycle oils, AMSOIL Synthetic Motorcycle Oil contains special anti-rust agents. It passes the ASTM D-1748 humidity cabinet rust test and clearly demonstrates superior rust protection (see photos below).

Provides Excellent Wet Clutch Performance
AMSOIL 20W-50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil contains no friction modifiers and promotes smooth shifting and positive clutch engagement. It controls heat and helps prevent slippage and glazing, while its high TBN helps to improve clutch life by resisting the acids that can degrade clutch material.

AMSOIL MCV Shear Stability

APPLICATIONS
AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is recommended for air or liquid cooled 4-stroke engines. It meets SAE 90, API GL-1 gear oil requirements and is recommended for transmissions and primary chaincases. AMSOIL MCV is recommended for Harley Davidson®, Buell®, KTM, Ducati®, Aprilia®, BMW®, Triumph® and other motorcycles where 15W-50 or 20W-50 engine oils or SAE 90, GL-1 gear oils are used. Not recommended where an API GL-4 or GL-5 gear oil is required.

MIXING AMSOIL
AMSOIL Synthetic 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil is compatible with conventional and synthetic motor oils; however, mixing oils may shorten the oil life expectancy and reduce the performance benefits. AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where oils have been mixed.

Aftermarket oil additives are not recommended for use with AMSOIL motorcycle oil.

SERVICE LIFE
Recommended for use up to twice the motorcycle manufacturer change interval (miles/hours) or one year, whichever comes first, in engines, transmissions and primary chaincases. For Big Twin Harley-Davidson transmissions only, follow the Harley-Davidson recommended drain interval for synthetic oil of up to 20,000 miles or one year, whichever comes first. When using an engine filter other than AMSOIL Ea, change the filter at standard intervals.

Synthetic Motorcycle Oil in Harley Davidson

Synthetics and Harley Davidson bikes is a topic of much discussion. Harley, like most auto manufacturing companies, refused to accept synthetics for years. It was only recently that HD, the last remaining American manufacturer to still ostracize synthetic oil, finally came out with their own synthetic. So, the company that refused to accept synthetics for 100 years finally has their own; SYN3.

Buy your bike from a good, quality bike manufacturer. Buy your oil from a good, quality, synthetic oil manufacturer. If you want to know the facts regarding motorcycle oil, please take a few minutes to view the online presentation "A Study Of Motorcycle Oil". This motorcycle oil presentation is exhaustive, and provides good third party information. The new Harley Davidson Syn3 has now been tested as well. It didn’t do so well.

Harley Davidson warranty and Amsoil

I’m sure you’ve heard the debate about synthetic oil impacting your warranty. It’s illegal for a manufacturer to void a warranty based on the brand of oil used. It’s called the Magnusson Moss Act. You can read it here, as well as the Amsoil warranty on oil and filters. Basically, manufacturers cannot specify a BRAND of oil, as long as the oil meets specifications.

You still read a lot of misinformation, but now you have access to the facts. For example, in 2007 the Harley Davidson Enthusiast magazine, which I subscribe to, had this question from a reader. “Would I void the warranty if this lubricant is not specified in the H-D owner’s manual?”

The editor’s answer; “SYN3 is the only synthetic motor oil that does not impact your 24-month, unlimited-mile factory warranty.” Of course, this is NOT TRUE. The next issue of the magazine, they had received dozens of replies objecting, and even a reply from Dean Alexander, VP  at Amsoil. The Enthusiast clarified the issue in an interview with the Lubricants Category Manager at Harley, Mr. Larry Gutjahr.  “No, that’s not true. We cannot and would not void a warranty for use of another brand of oil." Larry Gutjahr, P&A Lubricants Category Manager, Harley-Davidson.

There have been millions of miles put on Harley Davidson motorcycles using Amsoil. Any remaining concerns should be resolved by reviewing the test information mentioned here, as well as the warranty information. Amsoil is also now the official Harley oil of Sturgis, and Daytona Bike week, so the tide is turning. Amsoil is also the oil sponsor of the AMA Pro Daytona Sportbike race at Daytona, for those who don’t hate sportbikes.

Harley Davidson oil product selection

To access the online product selector please check the Amsoil product selector. This will help determine the correct air filter, oil filter and synthetic oil for most motorcycles including; Harley, Buell, all the Asian bikes, Aprila, KTM, Ducati, Cagiva, Indian, Moto Guzzi, BMW, BSA as well as snowmobiles, ATVs and watercraft.

AMSOIL has synthetic oil products that riders have been using in v-twins for years. Amsoil also manufacturers chrome oil filters for your Harley needs. There are two basic approaches to running AMSOIL synthetic in a big twin. One oil meets the specs for all three uses;

SAE 20W-50 Synthetic Motorcycle Oil (MCV)
High Performance Lubricant for Engines, Transmissions and Primary Chaincases

Some riders prefer to match the oil weights to the different needs. These riders usually go with something like this; 20W-50 oil in the crankcase, AMSOIL synthetic 10W-40 oil in the primary chaincase, and AMSOIL Severe Gear 75W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube in the transmission.

Personally, I run the 20w-50 in all three cases, and it’s been working great. This year I rode through Dragon’s Tail, all over Arkansas, and local riding as well.

Amsoil Synthetic Oil also offers a synthetic 2-stroke oil, as well as a full line of Harley Davison oil filters in both black and chrome.
